PROJECT: JTC2022 - Networking Chronic Pain: NeuP-GRADE

Neuropathic Pain Special Interest group (NeuPSIG) revised systematic review, meta-analysis and therapeutic guidelines

Abstract

Project aim: To support the activities of a systematic review and meta-analysis of pharmacological and neuromodulation techniques for the treatment of chronic neuropathic pain. Although the senior leaders (N Finnerup and N Attal) were also leading the previous systematic review performed in 2015, we are forming a new collaboration of international, multi-disciplinary researchers, many of whom have not met before. The funding will allow a 2-day in-person meeting to discuss the results of the meta-analysis and elaborate a treatment algorithm. Work plan: Reflection and development of the protocol began in January 2022. The protocol will be finalized very soon to allow the search in the different databases in November 2022. There will then be a very important work of data extraction which is planned to last six months, relying on a team of experienced researchers and on the support of a research assistant who will work full time on this study. Up to now, video meetings have been performed. In person meeting is planned for June 2023. Impact and potential of the results: International guidelines will be updated and disseminated to improve patients’ care. This work will also allow to define what is known and which are the gaps in the knowledges for neuropathic pain treatment. This will help define research priorities for the coming years in the field but also opportunities to form new collaborations.
