The Fund for Scientific Research (F.R.S.-FNRS) is a research funding agency that promotes and supports basic scientific research in the French-speaking Community of Belgium. Founded in 1928, it mainly receives public subsidies, currently from the French-speaking Community of Belgium, the Walloon Region and the Federal Government of Belgium. The predecessor to the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), the National Science Council (NSC) of the Executive Yuan, traces its history back to February 1, 1959. As such, the NSC was reorganized and became MOST on March 3, 2014 with a new organizational structure aiming to facilitate stronger links between academic research and industrial development. MOST promoted NSC’s tradition of innovative measures and programs. Since July 27th, 2022 the ministry transformed to the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC). The NSTC develops Taiwan’s technology strategy and coordinates the science and technology investments. By strengthening the coordination, and integrating the government’s technology policy across multiple departments, NSTC will foster an innovative and entrepreneurial spirit and creativity in science and technology, and thus boost Taiwan’s academic and industrial competitiveness at the international level.
