JTC2008 "Neurodegeneration"

The European population is steadily growing older. Many neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s Disease or Parkinson’s Disease are strongly linked with age, and their prevalence has thus continuously increased over the past years. Neurodegenerative Diseases pose a great burden to the affected individual, the relatives and to our societies as a whole. Despite this development, to date, effective cures are lacking.

The first NEURON Joint Transnational Call 2008 therefore focuses on “European Research projects on Neurodegenerative Diseases”. Advancing our understanding of the etiology of neurodegenerative diseases and developing new strategies for their (early) diagnosis, therapy and rehabilitation are the major targets of this call. Furthermore, NEURON intends to promote translational research, spanning from basic research strategies to early clinical application.
