NEURON videos

The new video of the Israel Chief Scientist Office of the Ministry of Health (CSO-MOH) in the framework of the ERA-Net NEURON is ready for download. An educational video is presented around the biology and treatment of depression in 2010.

Another video from CSO-MOH in the framework of the ERA-Net NEURON is presented around Alzheimer's disease research 2010.

The Israeli NEURON partner, Chief Scientist Office of the Ministry of Health (CSO-MOH), produced an educational video that centers around Parkinson's disease and the therapeutic option of Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS). Parkinson's disease or PD is a degenerative disorder of the central nervous system that often impairs the patients' motor skills and speech, as well as other functions. Although the cause and molecular pathophysiological basis of this disease have been and still are thoroughly investigated, there is presently no cure for PD, but medications or surgery can provide relief from the symptoms. One promising therapeutic option is   stimulation of parts of the brain with implanted electrodes, Deep Brain Stimulation. The video clip has French and German subtitles.

The Israeli 'cannabinoids in medicine' educational video centers around the medical use of cannabis. The Cannabis sativa plant has been used as a herbal therapy, most notably as an antiemetic (to treat vomiting and nausea). Other applications may include arthritis, glaucoma, multiple sklerosis, depression, movement disorders and chronic pain. So far, the medical use of cannabis is legal only in a limited number of territories, its usage generally requires a prescription and distribution is usually done within a framework defined by local laws. The video clip has French and German subtitles.

In October 2009 a Neuroethics Workshop was held in Jerusalem. Recordings of the scientific contributions can be viewed in flash and windows version.

Foresight activities

A new foresight study on "Furthering Neuroscience Research on Neurodegenerative and Psychiatric Disorders" has been published in 2010 by ERA-Net NEURON. National funding programmes

The report about the Transnational Funding Activities in the NEURON Area (2009) summarises the results of a survey that was developed in the first half of 2007. Data acquisition was conducted between May 2007 and September 2008. The report summarises information from 12 different NEURON partner organisations representing 10 different countries. By Herbert Mayer (FWF, Austria).

A survey of "European funding programmes for neuroscience" (2008). The report summarizes the results of a survey that was conducted in the framework of the ERA-Net NEURON during Summer 2007. It presents information about funding activities in the area of neurosciences, neurology, and psychiatry provided by 33 private and public funding organisations from 20 countries; by Rainer Girgenrath and Marlies Dorlochter (PT-DLR, Germany).
